Summer Knitting

We’ve had a scorcher of a week here in Bristol and having recently come to the end of a knitting hiatus, it’s been a struggle to find the right thing to cast on! But there are plenty of Summer knitting patterns out there and to help you out, I’ve put a small collection together at the link below.

Like some of you, naturally when it warms up I tend to go for socks, as they are so portable and light. However last year I made a series of summer tee patterns which I’ve been wearing quite a lot recently and I really enjoyed making. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of a garment sometimes, and these are quite versatile in that they can be layered up or worn on their own. The lace allows the air to circulate a bit which is much more favourable than a clinging t-shirt!

Summer Knitting Collection

Tywardreath (above) is a DK lace t-shirt that can worn over a vest top or even just a bra. It is worked in West Yorkshire Spinners Elements DK which is an airy blend of Lyocell and wool to keep your temperature regulated. The pattern is worked from the bottom up in the round and widens slightly as it gets towards the bust, giving you a bit more room in there when it’s a bit warmer outside.

I’ve designed the top to fit a 71-157cm (28-62in) chest with approximately 12-19cm (4.5-7.5in) ease. At the armholes the body divides and is worked flat to the shoulders.

Sennen Cove is another summer top knitting pattern, again worked from the bottom up. This one is worked in Erika Knight Studio Linen, a very breezy yarn combining premium and recycled linen. This has been my first experience working with the yarn and it’s been an absolute pleasure to wear this on a warmer day. The pattern is sized to fit a 71-157cm (28-62) in bust with around 5-10cm (2-4in) of ease, and is worked completely seamlessly so there is no sewing up at the end.

Harlyn Bay is a really quick knit sock pattern I wrote last year when I really wanted some shortie socks! These are worked from the top down and after the ribbing you go straight into the heel flap and gusset. They were done in no time and if you’re working one of the smaller sizes, you might even get two pairs from one ball. Perfect with sandals and trainers!

Undoubtedly I’ll be adding to this collection as time goes on but you can see more of my summer knits at the link below. I’m currently working on a pair of mint green socks with a lace panel up the side, which are knitting up quite quickly. Watch this space!
