Pattern edit time varies considerably depending on the design, construction, complexity and how the pattern has been written. During our consultation I will do my best to give you an approximate figure based on your pattern and requirements. 

Accessories

Smaller accessories and really simple projects could take me less than half an hour for a full edit, but if there are charts, shaping or lots of pieces this will affect the checking time, which could be up to two hours or more.

Garments

Garments usually take me two to six hours or more to check depending on their complexity and how they are constructed, but there are other things I need to factor in. Some of the garment patterns from some of my regular clients I can check quite quickly because I am familiar with their style and their design process each time is the same. However newer designers often don’t have a style yet and the pattern might jump around a bit to begin with – but this is something we can work on together. The first few designs will likely take a bit longer as there can be an element of coaching involved, which can be used for future patterns. Once we have developed the design process and have a clear idea of the information that needs to be included and how to instruct it, tech editing time is cut down considerably and the next pattern should be a lot more straightforward.

Size Inclusive Grading

I usually ask for around 45 mins to an hour per size if I am grading a garment. This can really vary though depending on the construction, the pattern writing style and what is expected of the knitter, so please consider sending me the pattern first for a better estimate. I always suggest including as many sizes as you can to make your patterns more accessible to a wider audience and include more body shapes. Some patterns can be much more straight forward to grade than others and will require much less time.

Transparency

I always try and be upfront with my clients, so if I start working on a knitting pattern that looks like it is going to take longer than we originally planned I will get in touch.
